Option 1 — The train (best for 2-5 day trips)
Route: Paris Saint-Lazare → Caen → Bayeux. Direct Intercités trains, roughly hourly during the day. Journey time ~2h15 to Bayeux.
From Bayeux station to Arromanches: 15 min by taxi (~€25), 30-40 min by regional bus (NoMad Car line 121), or rental car pick-up at the station.
Cost: €11-€60 one-way, second class (dès 11 € en anticipant), depending on how far you book ahead. Family of 4 for a return trip: under €200 in economy.
Booking: SNCF Connect (official) or Trainline. Prices rise as the date approaches — book 2-3 months ahead for the best rates. Anniversary week (June 6) sells out.
Getting to Saint-Lazare from CDG airport: RER B to central Paris (~40 min), then Metro line 3, 12 or 13 to Saint-Lazare (~15 min). Total CDG to Saint-Lazare: about 1h with connections. Allow 30 minutes buffer for the connection.
Option 2 — The drive (best for road-trippers)
Route: Paris → A13 motorway west → Caen → Bayeux → Arromanches.
Distance: 280 km. Time: 2h45 in normal traffic; 3h from CDG. Tolls: approximately €25 one-way. Fuel: ~€30 one-way (compact car, gasoline).
Traffic tips: avoid Friday 15:00-20:00 leaving Paris (weekend exodus) and Sunday 15:00-20:00 returning. School holidays add pressure.
Rental cars: pick up at CDG (largest selection), at central Paris stations (Gare de Lyon, Saint-Lazare — check parking after pick-up), or in Bayeux if you take the train first. Automatic transmission books out in summer — reserve 2-3 weeks ahead.

Option 3 — Guided day tour (best for a single-day visit)
Many Paris tour operators run day-trip buses to the American D-Day sector. Typical schedule: leaves central Paris around 07:00, returns around 21:00. On-site time: 5-6 hours, focused on Normandy American Cemetery, Omaha Beach, Pointe du Hoc, and sometimes Arromanches quickly.
Cost: typically €150-€230 per person including transport, lunch and guide.
Best for: visitors with exactly one day in France, no plans to overnight in Normandy, no rental car appetite.
