May – June 2026: the 82nd anniversary
From May 30 to June 14, 2026, Arromanches becomes the epicentre of D-Day commemorations with the 20th edition of the D-Day Festival Normandy. Here is what we picked out as the most notable for Arromanches and its immediate surroundings.
"Pages of D-Day" Book Fair
About twenty authors specialising in D-Day and the Battle of Normandy in Arromanches, from 10am to 1pm then 2:30pm to 6pm. Free entry, signings, talks. Perfect to prepare your visits or go home with books for beach reading.
Defence & Security Village
All day on the esplanade in front of the D-Day Museum. Demonstrations by the French Air & Space Force, Army, Navy and Gendarmerie. Ideal for visitors interested in the contemporary military dimension. Free entry.
British brass band open-air concert
Thirty amateur British musicians performing in front of the D-Day Museum. Wide repertoire: classical, rock, pop, musicals, marches, film scores. Free, family-friendly.
Camp Churchill
Three days of historical re-enactment in Arromanches, from 11am to 6:30pm: British and German military bivouacs, scenes of civilian life under Occupation and at the Liberation, musical animations. A strong immersion, suitable for families.
D-Day — Great fireworks display
Major fireworks at 11pm, closing the celebrations of June 6. Visible from the Arromanches seawall and, of course, from the villa's bow window. The most watched moment of the year — arrive in town early for parking.
Around the festival, in the Bessin
Guided bike ride: Arromanches → Grandcamp-Maisy
Supervised bike outing along the Scenic Route 1944: 51 km from Arromanches to Grandcamp-Maisy, return by coach included. €20 per person, open to ages 14+. A full day to cross the D-Day beaches at a human pace.
Military antiques fair
At the Arromanches town hall hall, €4 admission. Collectibles, uniforms, medals, documents: a meeting point for enthusiasts and a great spot to bring home an authentic souvenir.

July – August: markets, tides and walks
Once the excitement of the D-Day Festival has passed, Arromanches finds its summer rhythm: SNSM-supervised swimming from early July to late August, weekly food markets on the village square, and summer evenings with seafront activities.
Weekly markets
- Wednesday morning · Arromanches food market, Place du 6 juin. Local produce, cheeses, fish, vegetables from Bessin market gardeners.
- Saturday morning · Bayeux market (10 minutes away), one of the most beautiful in Calvados.
- Sunday morning · Port-en-Bessin market, 15 minutes away — fishing boats arrive, scallops in winter.
Fairs and flea markets (confirm each season)
The tourist office publishes a Bessin flea market calendar. On spring and summer weekends, several nearby villages organise them — an opportunity to hunt for the famous Bayeux ceramics or 19th-century prints of the coast.
September – October: our favourite season
Indian summer in Arromanches has something magical. Tourist groups thin out, the light takes on an almost wintry quality that brings out the deep blue of the Channel, and sunsets become spectacular from the salon bow window.
Don't miss: the Scallop Festival in Port-en-Bessin, on the second weekend of November, where the whole coast gathers around its culinary pride.
Tips: what locals know that guidebooks don't
Visit the artificial harbour at low tide
The Mulberry B remains are impressive at any hour, but it's at low tide that you can almost walk under them. Download the Tides app and plan accordingly. Ideal coefficient: above 90.
Arromanches 360 cinema at end of day
The circular cinema is striking. Go in late afternoon (4:30 or 5pm): fewer crowds, and on exit, take time to walk along the cliff for sunset over the artificial harbour. One of the most beautiful panoramas in Normandy.
Memorial Pegasus, 20 minutes away
Often forgotten in favour of Arromanches 360 and the Caen Memorial, Pegasus Bridge is worth the visit. Fascinating story of the 6th Airborne glider raid, and the Café Gondrée across the bridge — a heritage building.
Charolais and Bessin cheeses at Le Mouton Rathouin
At 17 rue du Maréchal Joffre, in the centre. A table where they work with real local produce. Book at least 48 hours in advance on weekends.
Land sailing at Asnelles (Gold Beach), 3 km
An accessible sporting activity for all (from age 8). Book with the Asnelles Water Sports Centre. Sensations guaranteed in strong wind, and the setting is unforgettable: roll on the beach where the 50th British Division landed.
November – March: Arromanches off-season
Winter is the Arromanches we really love. No (or few) tour buses, locals have coffee at Compagnie des Glaces or Terre d'Escale that never empties. The villa, with its five bedrooms, becomes the ideal place for a Christmas family reunion or a New Year's Eve with friends.
December: Christmas markets in Bayeux and Caen (the largest in Normandy). January-February: lectures at the D-Day Museum resume, free for Calvados residents and often open to staying guests on request.
Have an event to share?
This agenda is kept by the villa's hosts. If you are an organiser of a cultural, sporting or culinary event in Arromanches or Bessin, drop us a line: we'll be happy to add it here and recommend it to our travellers.
Staying during one of these events?
Villa Bellevue accommodates up to 10 guests, 100 metres from the D-Day Museum.
