The 82nd D-Day anniversary — coming back for June 2027

The D-Day Festival Normandy 2026 ran from May 30 to June 14 and brought tens of thousands of visitors to Arromanches, Bayeux, Caen and the whole length of the D-Day beaches for the 82nd anniversary commemorations. Camp Churchill, the official June 6 ceremonies, the fireworks fired from the seawall, the Pipeband, concerts, the outdoor exhibition at the Jardin des Pins, the D-Day Cross Triathlon: a particularly intense edition.

The next major rendez-vous — the 83rd anniversary — will be held around June 6, 2027. If you are planning to come, book from September 2026 at the latest: the whole coast fills up 6 months ahead. Ask us about your dates at Villa Bellevue as soon as the calendar opens.

July – August: Arromanches' high season

With summer, Arromanches returns to a lively seaside rhythm: SNSM-supervised swimming from early July to late August, weekly food markets on the village square, the Arromanches Festival from August 9 to 15, and open-air concerts on the D-Day Museum esplanade.

Getting around without a car

The NoMad Car summer coach line 125

For visitors travelling without a car, the Normandy Region is reactivating its summer coach line NoMad Car 125 for summer 2026. It serves the whole coastline between Courseulles-sur-Mer and Grandcamp-Maisy, passing through Arromanches and all the D-Day landing beaches. July 5 to August 31, 2026, 7 days a week. Two connecting lines link the coast to Bayeux (where the train from Paris arrives): line 121 (Bayeux ↔ Arromanches) and line 120 (Bayeux ↔ Port-en-Bessin). Fares and timetables on nomad.normandie.fr.

Arromanches Festival — 9 to 15 August 2026

The town's flagship summer event. The 2026 programme is unveiled on Tuesday June 23 at 8:30pm at the salle des fêtes (free admission), with the festival itself running from 9 to 15 August: a week of concerts, performances and seafront entertainment. Detailed line-up to be confirmed via the town hall or on arromanches.com/evenements as the dates approach.

"Silver Tour" concert by American Music Abroad — Thursday July 2, 11:30am

Over 100 student musicians from Pennsylvania, brought to Normandy by AMA — American Music Abroad, give a free open-air concert on the esplanade of the D-Day Museum. It's a quiet transatlantic tradition born from the friendship between D-Day veterans and the young American generations who keep returning to Arromanches. Bring a folding chair or settle on the seafront benches.

Sunset Yoga on the seawall — first session Thursday July 2, 6:45pm

New for summer 2026: open-air Vinyasa Yoga sessions at sunset on Arromanches' seawall. A dynamic practice (flowing postures), open to all levels. Pricing and booking with the instructor — details on arromanches.com/evenements.

July 14 — Bastille Day and seaside fireworks

As every year, coastal towns host fireworks from the sea around Bastille Day (the exact date varies by town — check with Arromanches and Courseulles-sur-Mer town halls). From the Villa Bellevue terraces, the show unfolds at eye level over the Channel.

Weekly markets

Fairs and flea markets (confirm each season)

The tourist office publishes a Bessin flea market calendar. On spring and summer weekends, several nearby villages organise them — an opportunity to hunt for the famous Bayeux ceramics or 19th-century prints of the coast.

September – October: our favourite season

Indian summer in Arromanches has something magical. Tourist groups thin out, the light takes on an almost wintry quality that brings out the deep blue of the Channel, and sunsets become spectacular from the salon bow window.

European Heritage Days — 19, 20 and 21 September 2026

Three days of exceptional openings: monuments, sites and collections normally closed to the public open their doors across France. In Bayeux, the 2026 programme includes the Baron Gérard Museum of Art and History (MAHB), the Battle of Normandy Memorial Museum, the Halle ô Grains, the contemporary art space Le Radar, the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the sub-prefecture and the intercommunal library Les 7 lieux. Note: the Bayeux Tapestry Museum is closed for renovation until its planned reopening in 2027.

In Arromanches, the D-Day Museum and the Arromanches 360 cinema typically organise special guided tours. Detailed programme on bayeux.fr and journeesdupatrimoine.culture.gouv.fr two weeks before the event.

Equinox tides, flea markets & autumn walks

September is also the month of Bessin flea markets (Bayeux, Vaux-sur-Aure, Trévières…) and walks along the Vélomaritime coastal greenway. The autumn air settles in, the paths empty out, and the equinox tides (around September 22) deliver the year's highest tidal coefficients: the ideal moment to discover the Mulberry B remains almost completely exposed.

November: remembrance and scallops

Le Goût du Large — Scallop Festival at Port-en-Bessin — 7 and 8 November 2026

The coast's major gastronomic event. For two days, the fishing port of Port-en-Bessin (15 minutes from Arromanches) becomes a great popular celebration of the Saint-Jacques scallop, local pride and joy. The programme: direct-from-boat scallop sales by fishermen, tastings, cookery workshops, shucking demonstrations, port and fish auction tours, photo exhibitions, Celtic music on the jetty. A children's village with free activities all weekend.

Running alongside, the Musique sous les Embruns festival (21st edition in 2026) brings together more than 40 musicians and singers from Normandy, Brittany, England and Ireland for a musical tribute to maritime heritage. Free admission. Programme and times on the Port-en-Bessin town hall site and Bayeux Bessin Tourism.

Villa tip

Perfect for a group stay

The Scallop Festival weekend is a brilliant time at the Villa Bellevue: 10 guests, fully-equipped kitchen, and freshly-landed Saint-Jacques scallops a 15-minute drive away. Several of our guests have made it an annual tradition.

November 11 — Armistice Day commemorations

Coastal towns (Arromanches, Bayeux, Courseulles, Port-en-Bessin) all hold ceremonies at war memorials on the morning of November 11. In Bayeux, the ceremony at the British War Cemetery (4,144 Commonwealth graves) is particularly moving: regular veteran presence, wreath-laying by the Royal British Legion, Last Post. A quieter, more intimate way — less crowded than the D-Day Festival — to touch the history.

All Saints' holidays and first Christmas market

The All Saints' holiday (second and third weeks of October) is a gentle period for a family stay: few crowds, golden light, empty beaches. The Calvados region's first Christmas market traditionally opens in Bayeux on the last weekend of November.

December – February: winter Arromanches, the well-kept secret

Winter in Arromanches is our favourite season: vast empty beaches, spectacular storms watched from the salon bow window, heavy skies that turn every tide into a painting. The village returns to its authentic face, shopkeepers greet you by name, and rental rates drop. A lit fireplace, a vintage Calvados, and the Channel as far as the eye can see: this is the other Normandy.

Bayeux Christmas Market — December 2026

Every December, the Place de la Liberté in Bayeux fills with around twenty wooden chalets around the "Liberty Tree": local artisans, Bessin producers, mulled wine, children's activities, illuminations throughout the town. In 2025 the market ran from December 12 to 24 — 2026 dates to be confirmed with the Town of Bayeux closer to the event. Combine perfectly with a visit to the floodlit Gothic cathedral and a glass of warm cider at the foot of the tree.

Telethon — first weekend of December

French tradition: the first weekend of December, all across France, the Telethon mobilises associations, town halls and residents. In Arromanches and Bayeux, sports challenges, fairs, charity runs, evening gatherings in village halls. Programme via the town halls.

New Year's Eve facing the Channel

Several of our guests choose the Villa Bellevue for New Year's Eve: 10 people, dinner in front of the bay window, and the new year fireworks watched on the horizon over the sea. Book well ahead (there are rarely any availabilities left after September for the year-end holidays).

Winter storms and watching the sea

January-February are the months of great equinox tides and Atlantic gales. For anyone who loves the sea in motion, it's an unmatched spectacle. The Arromanches seawall is safe even in bad weather (but avoid walking it during storm surges). The Arromanches 360 cinema and the D-Day Museum stay open all year — a rare chance to visit without the crowds.

Tips: what locals know that guidebooks don't

Tip #1

Visit the artificial harbour at low tide

The Mulberry B remains are impressive at any hour, but it's at low tide that you can almost walk under them. Download the Tides app and plan accordingly. Ideal coefficient: above 90.

Tip #2

Arromanches 360 cinema at end of day

The circular cinema is striking. Go in late afternoon (4:30 or 5pm): fewer crowds, and on exit, take time to walk along the cliff for sunset over the artificial harbour. One of the most beautiful panoramas in Normandy.

Tip #3

Memorial Pegasus, 20 minutes away

Often forgotten in favour of Arromanches 360 and the Caen Memorial, Pegasus Bridge is worth the visit. Fascinating story of the 6th Airborne glider raid, and the Café Gondrée across the bridge — a heritage building.

Tip #4

Charolais and Bessin cheeses at Le Mouton Rathouin

At 17 rue du Maréchal Joffre, in the centre. A table where they work with real local produce. Book at least 48 hours in advance on weekends.

Tip #5

Land sailing at Asnelles (Gold Beach), 3 km

An accessible sporting activity for all (from age 8). Book with the Asnelles Water Sports Centre. Sensations guaranteed in strong wind, and the setting is unforgettable: roll on the beach where the 50th British Division landed.

November – March: Arromanches off-season

Winter is the Arromanches we really love. No (or few) tour buses, locals have coffee at Compagnie des Glaces or Terre d'Escale that never empties. The villa, with its five bedrooms, becomes the ideal place for a Christmas family reunion or a New Year's Eve with friends.

December: Christmas markets in Bayeux and Caen (the largest in Normandy). January-February: lectures at the D-Day Museum resume, free for Calvados residents and often open to staying guests on request.
