Renting for ten in Normandy: everything you need to know.

Holiday rentals for more than 8 people are rare in Normandy. Most properties are sized for couples or families of 4. For ten, the choices are few and you need to book well in advance.

Here's what you should know before booking.

1. Anticipate the dates

For a stay of ten in Bessin, plan to book 4 to 6 months in advance for school holidays, and a year for D-Day weekends (May – June). For Christmas/New Year and February breaks, six months is usually enough.

2. Check the sleeping arrangement

"10 guests" does not mean the same thing everywhere. Ask precisely:

• How many separate bedrooms? A house for 10 with two sofa beds in the living room isn't the same as five distinct rooms.
• How many bathrooms? For ten people, the comfortable minimum is 2 (ideally 3).
• Double or twin beds? Specify whether you travel as couples or singles.

3. Deposit, conditions, inventory

4. Cleaning and linen

8. What if the group varies?

Only 6 or 7? Most houses for 10 still accept the booking. Your choice to pay for maximum capacity (for the space) or look for smaller. At the villa, many travellers come at 6 or 8 and feel at ease — the house is 150 sqm, there's plenty of room.
